Questions
Why does Fireroad need my location?
It is how the speedometer works. Fireroad uses it for your speed, trip distance, sunrise and sunset, and the local weather. Choose "While Using the App". Fireroad doesn't ask for "Always". If you said no, open Settings, then Fireroad, then Location, and choose "While Using the App". Leave Precise Location on, since a speedometer needs it.
Why is there no weather?
The weather line shows up after Fireroad has a GPS fix and a connection to download the forecast. It refreshes about every 10 minutes, or after you move about 2 km. With no connection it keeps the last forecast and dims it once it is more than 30 minutes old. Also check that Weather is turned on for your layout in settings. Minimal shows only the clock until you turn more items on.
Why doesn't Spotify show up?
Fireroad reads the Music app only. iOS doesn't let apps see what other apps are playing, so Spotify, Podcasts, and audiobooks don't show. Now Playing is off by default; turn it on in settings, and allow media library access when iOS asks.
How do I reset the trip meter and max speed?
Tap the trip number to reset it. Fireroad asks first, so a bump on the bars can't do it. Tap the max speed to reset it. Max speed also starts over with each new ride, but not at a gas stop with the app open.
How does the fuel range work?
In settings, set a fuel range (off by default). The trip number turns amber at 80% of that distance and red at 100%. There are no sounds or alerts. Reset the trip when you fill up and the number goes back to normal.
Does the trip meter keep counting with another app open?
Yes, during a ride. Fireroad counts distance while you are going 8 mph or faster. If you leave Fireroad for a navigation app, it keeps counting in the background, and iOS shows a blue location indicator. If you stay below 8 mph for 10 minutes, background location stops and the indicator goes away. Closing Fireroad stops it right away. Reopen Fireroad and it starts again when you reach 8 mph. Your trip total carries over until you reset it.
Does it drain the battery?
Fireroad uses GPS at its highest accuracy, and the screen stays on while it is open, as a speedometer needs. That uses battery, so a mount with power is a good idea for long rides. Background location only runs during a ride, and ends after 10 minutes of being stopped.
Is there an Android version?
It's on the way as a separate Google Play listing. This page will link to it when it's live.
